An escape room, built from scratch.

a studio project

You’re in a room. There’s a locked door, a collection of objects that don’t obviously do anything, and a few clues that might be more helpful than they first appear.

Pick things up, combine them, solve the puzzles, and escape.

It’s a point-and-click escape room that runs entirely in your browser. Every illustration, interaction and line of code was created here at Sidebeak.

Why we built it

Nobody commissioned this one. We built it because interactive experiences are something we’re excited about.

Animation is brilliant for explaining ideas, but it’s not always the right tool. Sometimes you want people to explore, experiment and discover things for themselves. An escape room felt like the perfect format to explore that.

It also became a place to bring together everything we enjoy doing: illustration, interaction design, programming, and weaving science into the experience. More than anything, though, it was an excuse to make something we’d genuinely enjoy playing ourselves.

The game is free to play in your browser and takes around 30 minutes to complete.
